The Grand Palace in Ayuthaya that housed Phra Mongkonbophit. In the reign of King Sua (1697-1906 A.D.) the lighting struck the top of the mandapa and it collapsed, causing the head of Phra Mongkhonpobit fell off. As a result the king had he mandapa rebuilt and turned into a hall of worship. In the reign of King Borommakot (1732-1758 A.D.) another restoration took place. When Ayutthaya was sacked, the hall was apparantly burnt. I wasnt feeling too good when we got here. Hence, i didnt go and visit the surrounding grounds much. There were small stalls with vendors paddling their goods to tourists.
